Terminating Terminal Surgeries at the Ontario Veterinary College: A (Celebratory) Interview with Erika Sullivan, DVM
Posted on March 22, 2011 by ANIMALVOICESRADIO
This week, we speak with Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Erika Sullivan about her victorious campaign to end terminal surgeries(wherein animals are anesthetized, operated on and are not “recovered” i.e. are euthanized post-operatively) at the Ontario Veterenary College (OVC) in Guelph, Ontario. We last spoke with Dr. Sullivan back in 2008, when she was just beginning this campaign and we were very excited both to see her succeed and to discuss (and celebrate) her victory on the show.
In this episode, we discuss her experience as a student at the OVC, her impetus to begin this campaign and the crucial turning point – her collaboration with Liz White co-founder of the Toronto-based advocacy group, Animal Alliance of Canada.
Erika joined us at the end of a very long day working with two local wildlife welfare organizations and wanted us to let our listeners know about their valuable work. You can check them both out below:
